There comes a time when founders have to look at their company with complete honesty and ask a simple question. What does it need now?

I started my career as a corporate finance and securities lawyer in Toronto and Vancouver. Most of my clients were junior mining companies, and while I enjoyed the work, I found myself increasingly drawn to the opportunities behind the businesses. I loved analyzing their potential, thinking strategically about growth, and imagining what they could become someday.

There are places on the map where opportunity hides in plain sight. For me and for Intrepid Metals, Cochise County, Arizona, is one of them. 

One of the major reasons for this is the permitting process. The idea for Intrepid Metals as a portfolio company came from my experience as chairman of another company in the area, where we got a mine permitted in two and a half years, start to finish - really record time. It’s a very friendly jurisdiction for mining.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been inspired by the wonder of flight and the dream of space exploration. Today, as astronaut-in-waiting #444 with Virgin Galactic, that once-distant goal is closer than ever. With each launch, the countdown to my own journey beyond Earth grows shorter.

The clean energy revolution depends on a resource we can’t overlook: metals. From copper and lithium to cobalt and silver, the transition to a greener world requires a massive increase in supply. Without mining, the shift to renewable energy and advanced technologies will stall. At Intrepid Metals, we see this challenge as an opportunity to meet global demand and build a sustainable future.
